Jan Hales Strickland discovered her passion for Interior Decorating at a young age. As a child, Jan would travel abroad with her family and was constantly amazed by the beauty of the castles, homes, and museums in several different countries around the world.
Jan grew up in a small town in Northeast Louisiana called Rayville. Throughout high school she worked on various beach residents, a movie room addition, and more. After graduating from Riverfield Academy in Rayville, LA in 2006 she went on to attend The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and major in Interior Design.
Jan graduated from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) program. While in college, she took an Interior Design course that studied for a week in New York and interned at design firms in Tuscaloosa and Foley, AL. She also served as a Student Member of the Advisory Board for Accreditation for the Interior Design program. Upon graduation in December of 2010, Jan founded Jan Hales Designs. LLC.
After College she worked at a high end Kitchen Design Center in Birmingham, AL. Jan married her College sweetheart Josh and shortly afterwards moved to Montgomery, AL. She then changed the name of her business to match her married name to, Strickland Interiors.
Jan worked at a Décor Fabrics Store and a nationally recognized Fine Antiques Store while living in Montgomery, AL. While working at the Fine Antiques Store she staged showrooms for the additional store locations in Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA. She also served as the Meetings/Events Chair for ASID in the Montgomery, AL area.
Jan was the lead Interior Decorator for the 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 Monroe, LA St. Jude Dream Homes. The 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 homes all Sold Out of all 7,500 tickets raising over $750,000 each and a total of over 3 Million Dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the 2019 home had an early Sell Out. The 2020 home had many challenges due to the pandemic but Sold Out regardless. The 2021 home was a record Sell Out! It sold out faster than any other Monroe home in 8 short weeks and was the first Monroe St. Jude Dream Home to ever sell out in March. Jan is currently working on the 2022 Monroe, LA St. Jude Dream Home. Jan was the contributing writer for a design column in the Northeast Louisiana Home & Reconstruction Magazine for over 5 years. Her work has been featured on Style Me Pretty Living, The Cottage Journal – French Cottage, HGTV Beachfront Bargain Hunt, Build . com , and in Northeast Louisiana’s Bayou Life Magazine. Jan is a 2019 Recipient of the Jack Davis Professional Achievement Award from the College of Human Environmental Sciences in Interior Design at The University of Alabama. Jan was a 2019 Nominee for the Monroe, Louisiana Top 20 Under 40 Awards. Jan was a 2020 and 2021 Bayou Life Magazine Bayou Buzz Finalist for the Interior Design/Interior Decorator category. Jan is recognized as a Marquis Who’s Who Top Professional for 2021. In 2021 she published her first Interiors coffee table book, Interiors For Living. The book sold out within 2 days of its release.
Jan, her husband Josh, son Jey who is special needs with Autism, and daughter Evy reside in Rayville, LA where Jan works full time at Strickland Interiors. Jan’s son Jey with Autism has made her a huge advocate for Autism and working with the Autism Society of North Louisiana.
She is an active Allied member of ASID – American Society of Interior Designers. Jan has over 13 years of experience in the Interior Consulting and Decorating field and over 10 years of owning her own Interior Decorating Business.
