Let’s Talk: Pillow Placement (Bedroom Edition)

Recently I’ve been getting so many questions about how to place pillows on beds and what size and shape they need to be.  So today I figured I’d let all of you in on some inside tips about pillows and pillow placements.

There is really no set rule on how many pillows you need, the size, etc. It’s honestly just a case by case basis and that’s why all of you hire Interior Designers to figure it out for you right? Well today is your lucky day! I’m going to spill some secrets. Let’s take a look at different scenarios.

1. The Lumbar Pillow (think 3’s)

This has to be my favorite pillow! It looks best when used like the example above. Three pillows (odd number) gives it the perfect balance and proportion.

2. The Bolster Pillow (Even Numbers)

The Bolster Pillow gives any room that classic and elegant touch. This pillow always pairs nicely with even numbers. Try and place these pillows with just one larger pillow behind it or like my favorite example that’s below:

3. The Classic 5 Pillows

This is the most common way to place pillows and you can never go wrong with this look. Two pillow sham pillows, two coordinating pillows and a small accent pillow in the front.

Here’s another example of the classic 5 pillow look from my favorite design blogger Emily A. Clark. If you haven’t checked out her blog yet you’re missing out http://emilyaclark.blogspot.com/.

4. 4 Decorative Pillows

This is definitely a more casual look but it always works!

5. Several Pillows

You can always throw lots of pillows on your bed (in several different sizes) just make sure they have order!

Have a wonderful rest of the week! Tune in again soon!
